About the Exam:
The exam will be taken immediately after the class. The exam is available in English or Spanish. If you registered only for the exam, please arrive by 12:45 p.m. if the class starts at 9:00 a.m. If the class begins at 8:00 a.m., arrive by 11:45 a.m. Check class/exam times here > >.
To become a Certified Food Safety Manager, you must pass a 75-question multiple-choice examination with a score of 70% or above. Some candidates find the course instruction and the exam more difficult than anticipated. Approximately 5% of English speakers and up to 30% of non-native English speakers (English as a second language) fail the exam the first time. If you have difficulty reading in English or Spanish or comprehending this message, we recommend that you study A LOT before attending. The exam is timed, and you will have two hours to complete it.
Before you come to the class/exam:
- Read this entire message.
- Study, so you don’t have to pay again to take the exam if you do not pass! See the links below for the study guides.
- We will send you a reminder email a few days before the class/exam. At that time, you will need to provide the names and email addresses of everyone attending the class/exam. We will need this information to set up an account for each person to take the exam.
What to Bring to the class/exam:
- Please bring a government-issued identification card (driver’s license, state ID, military ID, student ID, or passport) to the exam. Photo identification will be required before the exam.
- If you wear glasses for reading, computer, or distance, please bring them.
- We also recommend eating breakfast before the class since food and beverages will not be provided. You may bring a drink or snack and consume it during the breaks or class, but not during the exam.

- Optional – Feel free to print or download our course handout to your device for pre-study or to help you follow along with the class. See the link below.
